Measure 16.1.2 Project

Project Title: Application of Innovative Methods for Monitoring, Forecasting, and Control of Pests to Improve Crop Production in Northwestern Croatia

Project Users: This project is implemented within the framework of a partnership established under measure 16.1.1. between Agrobiotest d.o.o., family farms Mario Habijanec, Tomislav Tomiek, Miroslav Tomiek, and the agricultural business of Vedran Štefanec. Agrobiotest d.o.o. is the responsible entity for the project and the main executor of field trials. Other partners also participate in the project by providing agricultural land and preparing it for the execution of field trials.

Project Description: It is well known that micro and macroclimatic conditions have a crucial impact on the distribution and dynamics of specific harmful organisms associated with agricultural production. Changes in climatic conditions are regularly accompanied by a certain degree of change within the biocoenoses of agroecosystems, primarily reflected in the emergence of new pests or changes in the significance of certain already present pest species. Such changes necessitate the adaptation of previously established pest control measures.

Measure 16.1.2 finances field research conducted by project partners.

Objectives:

  • To investigate the application of forecasting models for disease occurrence in winter wheat, winter barley, and sugar beet under practical conditions,
  • To examine the applicability of biological control of the corn borer using drones for the distribution of parasitic wasps,
  • To investigate which varieties of winter wheat, winter barley, rapeseed, corn, sunflower, and soybeans best suit the production conditions in Northwestern Croatia,
  • To determine the optimal inter-row spacing for soybean to achieve the best yields in Northwestern Croatia,
  • To research the dynamics of the occurrence and types of pests on winter wheat, winter barley, rapeseed, corn, sunflower, soybeans, and sugar beet.

Purpose of Research:
To increase the efficiency of crop production in Northwestern Croatia by enhancing the effectiveness of pest protection measures, selecting optimal varieties, and reducing the use of chemical control agents by optimizing application timing and introducing alternative biological methods of pest control.

Total Project Value: 1,352,376.46 HRK

Project Implementation Period: 01.07.2020. – 30.06.2023.

The project is co-financed by the European Union from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development under the Rural Development Program of the Republic of Croatia, operation type 16.1.2. “Operational Groups”
