Last month, our employees participated in a seminar titled “Techniques for Isolating and Preparing Beetle Genitalia and Their Use in Morphological Species Identification.”
The education was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Lucija Šerić Jelaska and Lara Ivanković Tatalović, Master of Ecology, in a practical session at the Department of Zoology of the Faculty of Science in Zagreb.
The seminar aimed to educate participants on the identification of species from the genus Oulema. As Agrobiotest, in collaboration with Syngenta, will conduct resistance testing this year as part of IRM projects, including tests on the cereal leaf beetle (Oulema melanopus), the need for this workshop was evident.
Several species from the genus Oulema appear in Croatia. In agricultural production, the most problematic species is Oulema melanopus. However, there are other species that closely resemble it. We learned how to distinguish between them during the workshop.
